Our approach to product design is different that most. When you look at most of the software, web, and data-driven application developers out there in the world today, there are some qualities you'll find, time and time again. We like to use the visual of building a box to support what your company does to illustrate this.
- The "Here's the Box" approach
These companies have a product ready to go. You just exchange dollars for software, or licenses, or a contract, and you're good to go. They hand you the cardboard box, give you some training on how to fill it, and then turn you loose with a parting "call us if you need us!"
- The "Let's Re-Invent Cardboard" approach
If you really want to do business right, you need to start from scratch, right? That's what these companies will tell you. "There's nothing out there that will work for you," they say, "so let's start from scratch." Sure, it will cost you 25 times as much as if you bought our competitors product off the shelf, but look at this box we're designing for you!? When it's done, it will be completely yours; no one else will have a box like you do.
- The "This Box Proudly Made in ____" approach
While we have nothing against foreign developers, there's something about having to call your programmer at 3:00 AM just to catch him at the beginning of his day. And when you just really want to meet someone in person to discuss applications that make your business go, we don't think you should have to travel around the world. Sure, you can save some money up front with "cheap" labor, but you know what they say...
- The "I Build Boxes in my Spare Time" approach
There are thousands, if not millions, of people you might contract with to build your product. They may know some database programming here, or some C++ programming there, and in all reality, if they're a really good friend and really committed to you, they might just do it for free (or at least in trade for a new kitchen counter top).
- The "BUILD Your OWN Box" approach
This is the way we do business. Cardboard is wonderful. Tape is wonderful. Permanent Markers, they're great too! Put them together in the right mix, and you've got yourself a box worth living in. We seek to blend the best of what's already on the market (meaning we may not even sell you "the whole thing") with what we can develop from scratch for your specific needs and goals. If we have a product similar to what you'd like, or a system that looks something like what you want, let's start there.
